The Canadian duo Altered Waves deliver another superb single.
Back once again, causing a stir on Solar Storm, we showcase another superb single from the Canadian duo Altered Waves. Based in Montreal, Anthony Santopolo and Davide Campellone released their debut EP on Solar Storm in 2019, entitled V3 & Collide. Since then, the duo continue to push their sounds further with this energising and atmospheric single titled 'Ephemeral'.
Altered Waves are know for their crystal clear productions and this is a prime example. Ephemeral contains many components that are well balanced with each other, from the crisp fluctuating synth lines that are underpinned with powerful side chain bass, to the punchy drums, all tightly controlled with distortion. At the 2 minute mark you will find an impressive breakdown, in which a highly catchy, emotive melody, layered with piano emerges. This transforms the track into new territory and drops with full energy for high dance floor impact.
This release is supported with an ambient mix. The baseline melody is well paired with the enhanced piano and textural elements that give this version lots of interesting details. A downtempo, stripped back beat is introduced around the half way mark to keep the track flowing forward. This is accompanied by some huge sonic sweeping pads that drift in an out, delaying across the stereo field.
